Clients and the gateway

A client is an AI tool from outside that you use and that connects to Labtagon AI OS: Claude, Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, AI OS Workbench, or an app of your own through the API. The gateway is the one address all of them connect to.

Every client reaches AI OS at the same address, https://<your-ai-os>/mcp. Behind it are all the tool servers and skills of your profile: those your organisation gives you, those you added yourself and AI OS’s own. A client does not need a separate connection for each tool server.

Tools are named <server>__<tool>, for example files__upload. AI OS brings tool servers of its own, among them:

Tool server What it does
files, shares Keep files and share pages. See Files and shares.
inbox, tasks Ask you for a decision, create and hand on tasks. See Tasks and approvals.
memory Remember and search. See Memory spaces.
agents Create agents and start them. See Agents and jobs.
skills Read the skills of your profile.
studio Build tool servers and skills with the client’s help.
chats Export your chats. See Exporting chats.

Which of them a client gets depends on its profile and on what your organisation allows.

A client signs in to AI OS, not to the services behind it:

  1. You add the address to the client once. Connect your AI assistant at the top right of the console shows the steps for each client. See First steps.
  2. The client opens your company sign-in in the browser. AI OS uses it to know who you are.
  3. If you have more than one profile, you choose which one this client uses.
  4. AI OS gives the client a token of its own. It lasts 10 minutes, and the client renews it by itself. After 30 days without use, and at the latest after 90 days, you sign in again.

The client never sees your company password, nor your sign-ins and keys for the services your tool servers use.

The exact steps for each client are in Connecting clients.

When a client calls a tool, the gateway:

  • lets through only what the client’s profile allows;
  • holds a call that has to ask first until you answer it (see Tasks and approvals);
  • records the call: you find it under Insights → Logs → Tool calls.
  • Studio → Connections shows which clients connected, and with what.
  • Tools, skills and clients at the foot of the sidebar opens Clients and profiles: there you see which profile each client uses and change it.
  • Studio → Your sign-ins shows where you are signed in, and who acts as you there.

Tools that speak OpenAI’s API can use your organisation’s models through AI OS. Under Studio → API keys you find the Base address (https://<your-ai-os>/api/llm/v1) and create a key with New key; it is shown only once. These calls go through the same LLM gateway as the chat, with your organisation’s models and budgets.

Which clients the console lists, with their steps, is set for the installation; under Control Panel → Clients administrators see what calls AI OS and how it signs in.
